Quantum-inspired optimization for wavelength assignment

Problems related to wavelength assignment (WA) in optical communications networks involve allocating transmission wavelengths for known paths between nodes that minimize a certain objective function, example, the total number of wavelengths. Playing central role modern telecommunications, this problem belongs NP-complete class general case so obtaining optimal solutions industry-relevant cases is exponentially hard. In work, we propose and develop quantum-inspired algorithm solving problem. We an advanced embedding procedure transform into quadratic unconstrained binary optimization (QUBO) form, having improvement iterations with price-to-pay being slight increase variables (“spins”). Then, compare technique corresponding QUBO form against classical heuristic industrial combinatorial solvers. The obtained numerical results indicate on advantage approach substantial test solver works standard setting. Our pave way use algorithms practical problems telecommunications open perspective further analysis quantum computing devices.
